Cost to Embroider a Hat: Our Price Per Hat, Explained

November 02, 2026

Most hat quotes arrive as a single number you cannot check. Ours comes off a price list anyone can read, so here is every line of it, applied to caps.

1 to 8 hats$13.25Per hat. Published on /pricing
72 hats and up$6.25Per hat. Published on /pricing

Stitches included6,000Standard price. Published on /pricing
Short answer

At our published prices, standard hat embroidery (up to 6,000 stitches, where most hat front logos fall) runs $13.25 a hat for 1 to 8 hats, stepping down to $6.25 a hat at 72 and up. A new logo adds $35 one time for setup. Those numbers cover the decoration only. The cap itself is quoted separately.

Hat embroidery price per hat, by quantity

Five tiers, one column for hats and bags, and the price per hat drops at every step.

The number that matters most is how many hats are on the order. Every hat in the order is priced at the tier the total count lands in, so 30 hats all pay the 24 to 47 rate. This is the hats and bags column from the full price list, for standard embroidery up to 6,000 stitches.

QuantityPer hat, decoration only
1 to 8 hats$13.25
9 to 23 hats$10.75
24 to 47 hats$8.50
48 to 71 hats$7.50
72 hats and up$6.25

Standard embroidery, up to 6,000 stitches. The cap is quoted separately.

Hats sit in their own column, with a higher rate than shirts at the same count. If you are also pricing shirts, bags or jackets, the full price list shows every column and every add on in one place.

What moves the price of an embroidered hat

Quantity sets the base. A short list of published add ons is the only thing that moves it from there.

Nothing on our side is hidden in a vague line called handling. If a hat costs more than the tier price, it is because of one of these.

Stitch count past 6,000

The standard price covers up to 6,000 stitches. Past that, it is $1.00 per 1,000 stitches. Most front logos never get there, but a dense crest with fine fill can. If you want to understand what a stitch count measures, that post walks through it.

3D puff and metallic thread

3D puff adds $2.00 per item. It lifts the logo off the crown and reads strongly on a structured cap, but it only works on bold shapes. Here is when 3D puff is worth it on a cap. Metallic thread adds $1.25 per piece (the price list words it per garment).

Setup and lettering

A new logo or design carries a $35 setup charge, one time. We keep the file on record, so a reorder of the same hat uses the file we already have. The price list also carries a keyboard lettering line at $12, for typed lettering rather than a drawn logo.

The hat version of your logo

A logo built for a letterhead is usually too wide for a cap. The front panel is curved and short, so a wide mark generally has to be redrawn shorter to sit well on the front panel. We show that version on the proof before anything is stitched. Sending a clean vector file is the easiest way to keep that step quick, and our artwork page explains the logo file that keeps setup simple.

Keeps the hat price down
  • A front logo that stays at or under 6,000 stitches
  • Rounding the count up into the next tier when you are close
  • Reordering a logo we already have on file
  • Flat stitching unless the logo truly suits puff
  • One thread palette across every cap color
Adds to the hat price
  • A new logo: $35 one time setup
  • Stitches past 6,000: $1.00 per 1,000
  • 3D puff: $2.00 per item
  • Metallic thread: $1.25 per piece
  • Keyboard lettering: $12, the published line

Twenty four hats can cost less to embroider than twenty three. Read the tiers before you trim the list.

Four hat orders, priced line by line

Here is the math on real order sizes, decoration only, before the hats themselves.

Every figure below comes straight off the published list. Each order assumes a new logo, so the $35 setup is included once. On a reorder of the same logo, take the setup line out.

OrderEmbroideryExtrasSetupTotal
6 hats at $13.25$79.50None$35.00$114.50
36 hats at $8.50$306.00None$35.00$341.00
36 hats at $8.50, 3D puff$306.00$72.00$35.00$413.00
72 hats at $6.25$450.00None$35.00$485.00

Decoration only. The caps are quoted separately and are not in these totals.

Watch the tier edge. Twenty three hats at $10.75 is $247.25 in embroidery. Twenty four hats at $8.50 is $204.00. One more cap drops the decoration total by $43.25, and you have a spare for the new hire who starts in March. If your count sits a hat or two under a break, ask us to price both versions on the quote.

The puff row shows how a small add on compounds. At $2.00 a hat it looks minor, but on 36 hats it adds $72.00. That is fine if puff makes the logo, and wasted if the design is too fine to hold it.

Where the price ends and the hat begins

Everything above is the embroidery. The cap is its own line on the quote.

At PILLAR Prints & Embroidery we price decoration and garments separately on purpose, because the cap you pick swings the total more than any add on. Structured caps, rope hats, corduroy caps and performance caps are all styles we decorate, and you can see the caps we offer before you choose one. The embroidery rate stays the same whichever style you land on.

For a crew that works outside most of the year, the fabric matters as much as the logo. We wrote up rope hats versus performance caps for desert sun from the PILLAR side, and the same thinking applies to a company order.

We also design our own headwear, so we know what separates a cap people wear from one that sits in a desk drawer. Have a look at the hats we make for our own PILLAR line for the shape and finish we hold ourselves to.

Fit decides whether the hat gets worn at all. A cap that sits too high or pinches at the band is a wasted $8.50 of embroidery, so before you order a single size for the whole team, read how a cap should actually fit.

Winter orders follow the same pricing. A cuffed knit hat is priced from the hats and bags column, so the tiers above apply to embroidered beanies for a winter order too.

Already have a box of caps? We handle embroidery on hats you supply. Our price list notes that we assume no liability for loss or damage to garments provided by the client, so count them before they ship and send a spare if you can.

How long hat embroidery takes

Logo embroidery on stock caps runs 7 to 10 business days from proof approval.

That clock covers logo embroidery on stock caps and starts when you approve the proof, not when you first send the logo. Every order gets a proof showing placement, size and thread colors before production. Shipping is on top, and the window is a target we plan to, not a promise.

There are no minimums, so a six hat order for a leadership team runs on the same clock as a full company order. Rush is available upon approval, with no published rush price. If you have a firm hand out date, put it on the quote and we will tell you what is realistic before you commit.
